Any advice for building a kotatsu?

I recently decided that over the next spring and summer I want to build a kotatsu for my livingroom (and discard the icky couch LOL!). Has anyone here built one or something similar? I have looked online and can't seem to find detailed instructions - they're pretty vague. I've gotten a general idea on how to do it, but since I've never done any big carpentry projects I'd like a little guidance.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.Any advice for building a kotatsu?
Here's are links to a couple of pages run by someone who seems to know how to build a kotatsu.

I've never seen one fitted with a heater but it makes sense for inexpensive space heating when it's cold.

To jazzfan's response: kotatsu are USUALLY fitted with a heating element. If it doesn't have a heating element, then it's just a koohii teeburu, unless you live in the Meiji era, in which case you have a 40cm-deep hole under your kotatsu where you put hot coals. %26gt;_%26gt;

I mean, that's like saying, ';I've never seen a fat American before, but I suppose with all of the fast food they eat and what little exercise they get that it -could- happen.'; =/
