  • Can you give me advice on building a bar in my garage?

We are going to build a moderate yet functional bar for our garage, I am wondering if you know of any web sites where i can get free plans for building it or maybe you can recomend a book you have used for such a project. Any advice is helpful. ThanksCan you give me advice on building a bar in my garage?
    1.Do not drink and drive!

    2. Dry bar is easy, just have booze and glass storage. Wet bar is a different story since you will need plumbing hookups.

3.Decide on exactly what you will be drinking like beer, scotch, wine or juice. That may influence the design.

4.Go get some literature. (But you knew that anyway.)Can you give me advice on building a bar in my garage?
Go to Home Depot, or Lowes. They have tons of plans there.
It is important to have a bar in the garage. You jus thave to search, search, search until you find something that will work for you.

Can anyone tell me where I can get some instructions / advice on building my own sunroom?

I'm thinking of enclosing my deck to make it into a sunroom, using old patio doors. I'd like to find some advice on this from someone who has tried it. Any suggestions? Can anyone tell me where I can get some instructions / advice on building my own sunroom?
Check either DIY.Com or HGTV.Com. I saw a show about just that project on one of those channels.

Good luck! Can anyone tell me where I can get some instructions / advice on building my own sunroom?
    Try hgtv.com or diy.com

I am thinking about putting mosquito netting on mine but as a use of curtains; where I can enclose the whole entire porch and when I want it to be opened up tie back the curtains, etc...
Take a look at http://buildyourownsunroom.ca/. It describes in detail what you're talking about.
You know we could help you right here if you were a little more specific in what you want to do.

We're trying to sell an unfinished building. What advice do you have?

We bought a condemned in-town house, gutted it, and restored it to the point where all the prep work is done. New doors, new windows, 6 steel I-beams in cellar, new reinforced construction. Present condition is an empty 1500 sq ft building which could be two townhouse apartments, containing only subflooring and stud walls. (No insulation, no wiring, no plumbing) Any thoughts on how to attract the next best owner? It is zoned commercial and residential. We're trying to sell an unfinished building. What advice do you have?
Hire a great Realtor with commercial lofts experience. Interview a couple and don't take the one that says your place is worth the highest. If you contact me I can pre interview for you and refer to you the ones I think you should talk to. This will save you hours of work. %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;or%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;put it on craigslist through Postlets.com ( its free) it allows for several pictures and as much info as you want. It looks so pro you will love it.We're trying to sell an unfinished building. What advice do you have?
In land sales we have 3 types of buyers:

the 20 year buyers who pay by the acre

the 5 year buyers who see the profit potential

the 1 year buyers who put in the utilities and roads.

We don't see that in ';unfinished buildings';. What we see are:

the first person who ran out of money

the sharks who feed off the people who ran out of money.

You are looking at a pool of sharks. They don't pay well. If you could just get the building finished, you get all your money back and make a profit. I'm sure you can't do that or you wouldn't have written.

I already lived thru what you are doing. I was in your shoes. Maybe you will get luckier than i did. Just dump it and do better next time. Get cash. No promises of future profits.
Get a good realtor that specializes in commercial property. Don't expect to do well. There is still too much money that needs to be put into the property to make it functional. Best of luck to you--
Clearly you're not looking at the end user, so market to investors. Make sure you market that the property can be developed into two residential units...this might excite some rehabbers.

Any advice for building a kotatsu?

I recently decided that over the next spring and summer I want to build a kotatsu for my livingroom (and discard the icky couch LOL!). Has anyone here built one or something similar? I have looked online and can't seem to find detailed instructions - they're pretty vague. I've gotten a general idea on how to do it, but since I've never done any big carpentry projects I'd like a little guidance.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.Any advice for building a kotatsu?

I've never seen one fitted with a heater but it makes sense for inexpensive space heating when it's cold.

    To jazzfan's response: kotatsu are USUALLY fitted with a heating element. If it doesn't have a heating element, then it's just a koohii teeburu, unless you live in the Meiji era, in which case you have a 40cm-deep hole under your kotatsu where you put hot coals. %26gt;_%26gt;

Any advice for building curriculum for a Christian home school family?

My wife will be home schooling our 4 children.

2 are old enough to begin this year.

She had her heart set on Son Light curriculum, which teaches primarily through literature and the Bible, but financially it's currently out of the question.

Can anyone give detailed advice on how to build our own curriculum along the same lines on a tight budget?

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.Any advice for building curriculum for a Christian home school family?
Buy the Sonlight instructors guide and get the books at the library. It will be more work but worth it! Sonlight is an amazing program. We used it for 4+ years. Something to consider.. they have payment plans, and I am able to sell my used on ebay when I'm done with it for about 75-80% of what I paid for it new. It ends up being very reasonable. She can also combine and teach 2 kids with the same core.

Also check Ebay, HSLDA marketplace for used curriculum, and Craigslist....you may find it used.

    Best of Luck!

    Jana

http://www.purehomeschooling.com/Any advice for building curriculum for a Christian home school family?
I used Sonlight my first year. I got the Cores used and then borrowed all the books from the library. It costs a lot less that way.

Or look at Five In A Row. http://www.fiveinarow.com/

It's also literature based and is pretty inexpensive if you don't buy all the readers.

You might also try a local homeschooling group for info. Around here there's a church that has TONS of curriculum anyone can check out for the school year.

If they're still young, you can use the bible and the library and give them a wonderful education.

Oh, I combine my 3 boys in the cores, adjusting the work as needed. They have individual math and language arts, but I'd go crazy doing 3 different science, history, bible, art etc...
Teaching with unit studies will help to eliminate the need to for 2 different sets of books.

I am coming away from the structuredness of Abeka and going my own route this year.

    My family is using...

Science-Apologia Astronomy ($35 for both students, whole year)

    http://www.apologia.com/

History %26amp; Bible-Mystery of History ($45 for both students, whole year)

    http://www.brightideaspress.com/MOH1.htm

Math- Math-U-See ($85 with the cost of blocks, can be used by both children, whole year)

    http://www.mathusee.com/

We are also using Prarie Primer which is excellent for younger students as literature.

    http://www.cadroncreek.com/Merchant2/mer鈥?/a>

My older student is using IEW for writing. http://www.excellenceinwriting.com/

I use books from all over to assign for reading. We practice our penmanship writing cards, letters and notes to friends/family.

There are also curriculum guides put out by ';Teacher Created Resources'; that use a particular literature book such as ';Where the Red Fern Grows'; and implements spelling, penmanship and such into the book. I plan on supplementing with these.

    http://www.teachercreated.com/ (search *Literature Guides*)

    Good luck!
I agree - buy the Instructor Guide, used if you can (check http://www.vegsource.com/homeschool/ and select the appropriate grade level along the right side) and then get the books from the library. Well over 80% of them will likely be there, and you should be able to get almost all the others through interlibrary loan (ILL). You may have to buy a couple of books, but that should be it.
Look again at Sonlight! I know it seems to be a bit on the expensive side BUT you only buy it once! It turns into a great investment! For us to start Core 3+4 ( and a few things for kindergarten) we spent right about 900.00. We are using it for 2 years that brings it to 450 a year and then we are using it for 3 kids that takes it to about 150 a child /year. Not that bad considering most parents spend 3 times that just sending their kids to school every year. For you it would be an even better deal and since you have 2 kids to home school now they can use the same core so you only have to buy one at a time.

You can do as Jana suggested in buying just the instructor guides but it can be hard to find some of the books and you will have to purchase some books through Sonlight because they are the publisher or because they have a special printing deal.

We tried ACE and my daughter absolutely hated it. She wanted Sonlight back. ACE is a workbook based program. It cost about 40.00 a month for all subjects unless you need the teachers manuals to teach reading and such then it can be quite a bit more. But you have to purchase the workbooks again and again until all your kids are through it. We used it until February when we got our tax refund then ordered Sonlight. My kids are much happier with it.

Remember Sonlight has payment options! You don't have to come up with all the money at once also cut out the unnecessary stuff. You don't need a handwriting program right away. You don't need to purchase all the elective materials. You can just buy a core that doesn't include Science and teach what interests the kids in science using books from the library. Also I do suggest getting the markable map BUT a world map and a map of the US is all you really need. We use the Markable map all the time though I wish they would print it on one page like they use to instead of on 6 pages and fold it like they do now.

You can order Math from another source. Look at the programs they have and then look at the sites for the math curriculum. For example if you like Horizons then go to the Horizons site and order it from them if it's cheaper. We use Math U See (www.mathusee.com)

Look for the Core you need on Ebay lots of times you can find it there for quite a bit less than Sonlight offers it. Do check it out if you buy it from Sonlight there may be a few things missing like the consumable products (lang arts pages, History workbooks etc). You can order just those from Sonlight for pretty cheap.

Look at www.pennywiselearning.com sometimes you can find things there that you need for cheap.

Well I hope I gave you enough to get started! Good Luck!

  • Advice for building confidence for talking to guys?

I've found it easy to approach men who i find attractive (both looks %26amp; personality) when knowing most likely nothing will happen because they're much older, my teachers, far away relatives, etc. If I know there is someone who is appropriate for me then I get this overwhelming fear and although it is totally illogical i cant seem to get around it. Confidence and I have found it comes with age and knowing who you are. It's still hard for me to walk up to an extremely attractive girl in a bar or public place, but there are other ways to find attractive people and the best way is through groups and organizations. If you're a girl...most guys would be totally shocked if you showed interest in them and if they don't like you...there are plenty of other ones out there!

Anyone have any advice on building a fence and digging post holes?

I'm going to do this myself for the first time. I'm doing all the hard work such as digging post holes by hand. I've checked out a few books from the library that are really helpful but does anyone have any advice or know any great online resources I can use for help? I understand that getting the post holes right is the main concern when building a fence. I plan on taking my time with this project.

Questions I have at this point:

How far from the house do I dig the post holes?

How do I deal with a slight slope in my yard?(It goes up about a foot or two in the back right corner and then comes back down in the back left corner.

Any advice on the gate portion of the fence?Anyone have any advice on building a fence and digging post holes?
    1) CHECK with your locality's code office about fences. Usually, side fences can be set on property line, back fences on property lines, front fences will have a setback requirement.

    2) IF this is a big fence, strongly suggest going to rental center and renting a power post hole digger....it will take 2 people to use it, but it makes short work of digging the holes....allow one afternoon to dig about 30 -40 holes.

    3) Place holes at 8' centers! I prefer a 10'; diameter hole...I want my fence to be very sturdy in the event of high wind. Dig holes at least 24'; deep, 30'; if in area of hard freezes...you do not want the posts coming out of the ground in freeze/thaw conditions.

    4) Use Pressure Treated Post, CCA .4 DO NOT use further treatment...not necessary, these posts are good for at least 40 years underground...do not go for overkill...waste of money and time. Now, set posts into holes. Make sure you have at least 4'; taller than the fence will be height wise. Use premixed concrete in bags, pour into hole dry. Fill hole to about 2'; from top of soil. Use an accurate level, and plumb posts in both directions! ';Water'; the posts profusely to saturate the dry mix concrete. Make sure, after watering, the posts are still plumb. Allow to harden for one week, each day, saturate the ground around the post hole with water. AFter one week, the posts are ready to use.

    5) USE Pressure treated 2X4's for the stringers...one at top, one at bottom, one in middle. Probably better to set 2X4's on 'edge' to prevent sag. Screw or nail into posts after trimming. These are the fence stringers. The stringers will follow the 'lay of the land..up, down, depending upon the grade. You cannot make a level fence around property unless the differences in grade are very minor. Hills, slopes, etc...follow the grade between the posts..there will be a happy medium to follow...your eye will tell you what to do.

    6) After all the stringers are in place, apply fence boards, either inside or outside the stringers. IF you are a nice neighbor, the stringers will be inside. Set fence boards PLUMB...start with the first board, use a Level and screw in place...proceed about the fence, keep boards tight! (wood will shrink as it weathers, the seams will open some if you are in a dry area. IF the wood is really dry and you live in a high humidity area, be careful here...';age the fence boards'; by leaving them exposed to the are for at least 1-2 weeks...they will swell to meet the moisture in the air. You will loose a few to warping, but considering the consequences of a too tight set in wetter area, this is a small loss. Try to keep fence tight, each board plumb, remove as much warp as you can as you go around the fence. USE SCREWS (deck screws, not regular screws). Nails will 'pop' over time, so do not use them!

Now, trim each post to about 3-4'; higher than fence, cap each post with a metal or wood finial to make the fence sparkel. Stain with a wood sealant. Unstained wood will turn gray in a short time, but it will not turn gray evenly...A cedar tone is a good color. OR you can paint it if you like, just know that you will be painting for ever more if you apply one coat...paint does not hold up well on fences. Use either Cedar or PT lumber for the fencing...I prefer cedar, but redwood (expensive) can be used, not a great advantage over cedar..cedar will not rot above ground. Redwood available today is NOT what it used to be. IT is very soft, does rot in time.

I hope this helps.Anyone have any advice on building a fence and digging post holes?
    Here's some opinions...

Posts should be as close to the house as you can get them but not touching. Posts are typically 4';x4';. Use sacks of redi-mix to set posts at least 18'; in the ground. Make sure posts are plumb in all directions. If you are going to have horizontal boards to nail ';pickets';, space your posts about 6'; less than the length of the horizontal piece. Yes, a bit of waste, but you wont have to ';stretch'; a board that doesn't fit. Depending on the width and the weight of the gate, you may want to use a 4';x6'; or a doubled 4';x4'; on the hinge side. You can level the ground as needed, stagger the height of a ';panel'; or stagger the height of each picket to compensate for the grade change or add a horizontal board cut on a taper at the bottom of the fence to compensate for the terrain. The pickets sit on top of the horizontal board and secured with a finish nail and are nailed to the stringers as well. Use a string line to maintain accuracy, placement and squareness and measure everything twice...at least.
You could try looking at some sites like lowes.com or homedepot.com to see if they have any project areas that might help you. I know Lowe's has a thing where you can lay out a plan for a garden and it will compile the list of materials and plants to buy. You may also be able to go into the stores themselves and talk to one of the people that work in the home and garden dept. Lowe's has Home Improvement clinics on Saturdays so you might ask if your local store is having any clinics this month or next month that pertain to your project. Buy a good post hole digger.

We have a chain link fence and the posts are right up to the house on both sides so there is no gap..... Our yard has slopes as well and the fence just follows the slopes...This may take a little more work with a wood fence, though. I am not sure what you mean about the gate.. It depends on how you use your yard.. If this is a back yard and you might have occassion to drive a vehicle into the yard, you will want to have a gate opening with double gates so it's big enough. And regular gates on one or two sides will make it convenient to get to other areas of your yard without having to go all the way around or through the house. We had the double wide gates put in on two sides (ends) of our fence and a regular one on the side. We have locks on them when not in use to prevent our son from getting out and the neighbor's kids from coming in when we're not home. Good luck on your project!
When setting fence post, always set them in the dark of the moon. If you set them in the light of the moon, they will lean 10 degrees over time. If you use wooden post, use treated ones, or rap the bottom with plastic or tar paper. Cut your stringers with a bevel on top to allow water to shed off them, your fince will last longer.
sorry, can't help with the digging info, but the BEST (and cheapest) preservative for a wood fence is old engine oil out of the car.

it stinks for a couple of weeks, but hey, so does Creosote.
Wow, a lot of questions here. I'll attempt to get through some of them.

If you’re in no hurry, I would dig the holes by hand. Now there is gonna be 10 people to tell you to rent an auger, and that’s fine to. But you described taking your time. If it is your intention to put this fence up a section or two at a time, then post-hole-diggers is the way to go. If you want to lay out the fence and install all of your posts, then find a buddy to hang on to the other end of the auger, lay out all your post locations, mark them w/paint and THEN go rent the auger. So many people attempt to build a fence and rent the auger. It then sits for a day or two while they lay out the fence and locate the posts.

Even if your intend to rent the auger, I would locate all the corner posts and install them first using a post-hole-digger. Then tie a string from one post to the other ON THE SAME SIDE OF BOTH POSTS. Use this string to locate the posts in the center. Once you have the posts holes marked, remove the string. After the holes are dug, replace the string so you can use it to aid in placement of the posts in a straight line.

If mounting the first post on the house (a 2X4 instead of a 4X4 will work on the house/building.) is not an option then I would want the first post as close as I could get to the house. Your first post, near the house may end up being a large hole. I would start near the house and use the hand diggers. If you hit the foundation of the house w/the digger, I would place the post on top of the foundation. The goal is to get the post below the frost line. The foundation is below the frost line. If you place the post on the foundation, you have accomplished your goal. Should you decide you do not want to put the post on the foundation, simply make the hole wider until you miss the foundation.

At the risk of opening up a can of worms with my DIY friends, one note here. I would not backfield the posts with concrete. Concrete has been proven to draw and hold moisture and causing the posts to rot much guicker. I would/do backfield all posts with gravel/stone and dirt for the top 6';. You may want to consider backfiling the hole totally with stone. This would keep grass from growing near the post and looks nice.

You have a couple different options in dealing with the slope in the yard. You could simply lower each section of fence between the posts an inch or two and keep the posts close to the same length or you could keep the top of the posts at the same level and make each fence section an inch to two longer. Without knowing the style of your fence, I cannot give you much more than that. Except for one piece of advice. Keep the posts level. Do not attempt to lean the posts in an effort to ';follow the slope';.

Pressure treated lumber has a very high moisture content. I would not attempt to apply any finish until the fence is up for a year. I would then decide about the finish. Do not concern yourself with the grey color the fence will turn. Should you prefer the fence to go back to its original color; a pressure wash will return it to its original luster.

The gate options are just too many to address here. I would place the gate posts 4’apart for a walk through gate. When placing gate posts don’t forget to consider what you intend to use in the yard. Don’t make the mistake of making a 4’ gate and then attempt to get a 48” lawn mower through it. It is simply too tight. You may also want to consider either a wide gate for vehicular access or installing one section of fence w/bolts so it could be removed in case of an emergency.

Good luck and enjoy your project.
a good wood preservative is to take pulverized charcoal and mix with boiled linseed oil until the consistancy of paint. then coat the entire fence timber.

I need advice on building a house out of concrete blocks?

What kind of treatments would you put on the inside and outside to make it look nice.I need advice on building a house out of concrete blocks?
You can stucco over the concrete masonry units (CMUs), which is typically done on the exterior. I suppose that you could also stucco the interior side as well. Most, however, choose to apply vertical lumber or metal strips to attach standard 1/2'; drywall over, which is then taped, bedded, textured and painted. As for the insulation concerns, I would suggest injected foam to fill the cavities prior to wall finishes. I've seen this done on commercial projects that used CMUs and it would also apply to residential construction. It makes for a decent insulated wall. Good luck.I need advice on building a house out of concrete blocks?
That a really bad idea. Concrete block house is very cold in winter and steaming hot in summer. Impossible to insulate. So please drop that idea for your own sake.

Furthermore, NO ONE wants to buy a concrete block house. Its not worth anything except the expense of tearing it down.

Where can I find good advice for building a home?

We are about to begin the process of building a home. Is there a website that has advice, like things to beware of, and things to be sure to do. I don't want to be taken advantage of by anyone who can tell that I really don't know what kinds of questions I should be asking.Where can I find good advice for building a home?
We are in the beginning stages of building as well. Friends recommended this website to us for house plans, but you might find the resource section helpful too. There are articles about finding a lot, neighborhood, etc. There is one article that suggests all sorts of things to think about while looking at house plans such as whether you need an office and a guest room or could the office double as the guest room when you have overnight visitors? How often will you use your dining room or do you even need a dining room if you have a breakfast nook instead? Questions like these really helped us decide what rooms we really needed in our house and which spaces we could do without. There is a helpful article/time line about what you need to be doing to prepare for moving into you new home. You will also find info about your building budget, how to save money, landscaping and other topics to consider when building. I've linked to the resource section, but you might also look at the FAQs to help you understand the ins and outs of buying house plans. You might even see a plan you like. This site makes it easy to search for just the right home.

Good luck!Where can I find good advice for building a home?
Shouldn't you have done this homework first? Depends on how you are going about building the home. Have you signed a purchase agreement with a builder in a develpment. Or are you contracting the house yourselves to be built on your lot? Both have different business practices.
It depends on if you're hiring a contractor to build a house on your lot, or if you have a builder in a subdivision.

I might suggest hiring an independent contractor to make sure the builder is using quality materials and isn't rushing or doing the job halfway. you'll get that A LOT. If you're using a builder in a subdivision, they usually offer warranties, but a lot of people have problems getting them to fix things.

Having an independent contractor would avoid the problem in the first place. You need someone who is on your side, who will be honest and who knows the construction industry. Newly built homes are crappy these days unless you get a custom built home. Too many cut corners.

Any Advice on Building a new home?

I am self contracting to build my home and I was curious to see if anyone else has? And if you had any advice?Any Advice on Building a new home?
The most important issue in self-contracting is SCHEDULING! I am a carpenter, and have been involved in construction on and off for much of my life. 5 years ago I decided I was ready to take the plunge, and build my own house. The paperwork, loan, bidding, etc. wasn't too bad. Once it got moving though, it got much more complicated. A large part of that is due to the fact that i did a ton of stuff myself, but there were simple oversights that could have been costly. For example, I was sitting in the kitchen on a Monday, drywallers were coming on Wednesday. I knew I had forgotten something. Central VAC! Luckily, just after I called the installer, he had a cancellation, and was able to do his rough-in that day. But you can't count on luck. It's a rewarding feeling when the building inspector hands you the certificate of occupancy though, not to mention the fact that i saved over 20%. Hope this helps.Any Advice on Building a new home?
It can be a full time job! There are reasons that people hire out this job. If you are not familiar with the building process, and don't have good contractors that you are familiar with, it could be a nightmare. You will save money, if you do it right. However, delays, mistakes and miscommunication can cost you more than if you hired a reputable contractor. Consider hiring an interior designer to help you pull everything together - you want to be happy with the final result!

You can save THOUSANDS of dollars on everything from your house plans, to the kitchen, bathroom, flooring, appliances, right down to the handles on your kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

Just to give you an idea, I purchased a bedroom set from a big box discount furniture store and paid $3000. I could have gotten it for $1800. That's not the best part though, the bedding on the set at the store was $1200 for 2 euro shams, 2 regular shams, 3 small pillows, the comforter and bedskirt. I could have gotten the EXACT same set for $233. That's just on one bedroom set.

Imagine how much you can save if you're building a house and then furnishing it?

    Just a suggestion.
Woodtick made some good points. It can be tricky to be your own GC but if you're willing to put in the effort there can be some rewards. Here's how Tom Silva, This Old House general contractor, puts it:

';I bet if you asked ten people who built their own house if they would do it again, seven of them would say no. First of all, being your own general contractor takes a lot of time. You have to make sure the subcontractors you hire are right for the job. You have to make sure they're doing the job right and not cutting corners. Then you have to schedule them at the right times. Having the insulation company come before the plumber or electrician has completed their rough-ins can cause headaches. Or what if the tile guy comes in and the showers aren't connected?

    ';You may have to be there in the mornings to meet your workmen and set them up before you go to your own job. If they don't show or they're late, then you'll be late, too. These are just some of the problems that can come up. If you are willing and ready to spend long days and late nights on the phone and at the job site, go for it. If not, hiring a general contractor may cost more but it will save you time and energy. They have well-established relationships with subcontractors and familiarity with the time it takes to get different parts of the job done. Remember your time is worth something and, in the end, a savings of 30 percent may not be worth the personal investment that you'll have to make. ';

Good tips and advice in building a make-up artist portfolio? How do you present your work to an angency? Help!

I'm ready to build up my portfolio but I need some advice.

What are the best type of pics for it? How do I present my work to an agency? How's the interviewing process?

Anykind of help and information will be appreciated. Thanks!Good tips and advice in building a make-up artist portfolio? How do you present your work to an angency? Help!
I'm not exactly sure about this... but I was in mary kay for awhile and made a booklet of before and after photos after I did different girl's make overs and I actually got a lot of business from it. So while you're buiding your portfolio, find people and do before and after's of them.... get a variety of different ';looks'; to show.Good tips and advice in building a make-up artist portfolio? Just an FYI so you don't sound like you don't know what your talking about on Model Maayhem if you get on.. TFP/TFCD is TRADE FOR Print or TRADE FOR CD... NOT time for.. :)

A great way to get started on a portfolio is to do TFP shoots(time for print). You will need to have a variety of work to show off your talent. Natural look, glamour makeup, High fashion (crazy stuff). Join Model Mayhem (modelmayhem.com). It is free! It is a forum that you can learn so much from other artists, and meet up with models and photographers in your area that want to collaborate and make awesome pics for their books too! (I am #505920, say hi once you are on!)

I would recommend getting a full portfolio of knockout pics before attempting to set up an appointment with an agency. A lot of makeup artists think an agency is the way to go, they don't realize that an agency will take a certain percentage (sometimes 20-40%) of the money from the job for landing that client for you. If you want your portfolio to look professional, don't do before and after (unless you wanna book weddings and proms forever), it shows you are not as experienced. Call agencies in your area and ask what size photos they prefer (some want 8x10, others 9x12 or 11x14), and I do have a couple of black and white images, It can really show off your contouring skills :)
I used to do movie makeup (like the blood and gore stuff), but I also do professional beauty makeup sometimes. To build your portfoilo I would suggest many kinds of photos. You would definately want black and whites, sepia, but mostly color shots. Add in some of your creative work too. I would put an add in the newspaper for some volunteer models. Request them to have no makeup on and no blemishes. Also ask them to have their eyebrows done the day before the photoshoot. All the models need to have a before headshot. You also need your models to sign a release form stating that you own the rights to their photos. You will want closeup shots of eyes, lips, cheeks, and before and afters. Another thing to consider is looking at makeup ads in magazines for inspiration. Make sure your photos are in focus. Your portfolio will need actual photos (not copies printed on paper). Also, many industries now require all your photos backed up on a high resolution disk (so they can send them to others in their department). During an interview you will be asked the obvious questions, like how long you have been doing this, but they will test your product knowlede. What founation color would go on someone with combination olive skin? When you find an agency, you need to call them for an appointment to see them. Do not just mail in your work. Well, good luck!
well no black and white pictures. do peoples make up and then take it to any agency. DO NOT MAIL IT. take it straight to them. the interviewing is nothing big but you need to know things about make up.

  • Any suggestions or advice on building a career that would lead to becoming a politician?

Im currently in college studing business and economics. I have a desire to become a great leader. I like the idea of becoming a mayor of a small city. What assests could I obtain to better my chances of becoming a politician in the future?Any suggestions or advice on building a career that would lead to becoming a politician?
Being a good person and your dream will come true :)Any suggestions or advice on building a career that would lead to becoming a politician?
    1) get involved in school social services groups

    2) joing social networking groups such as rotary, lions etc...

    3) follow law in university - a must !!!

    4) get involved with your local government

    5) aim to be a mayor (but it really does not matter in asia)

    6) mayors get stuck in that posiion for ever

    7) develop good speech habbits

    8) back a popular local politician

if you have can do all this......i think you can link in well for the future, the balance will naturally take you forward...
Only take advice from people you trust.
get on the DC Madame list and make friends with Jack Abramoff

also start memorizing the screen names of your white house pages and send playful messages
    develop leadership qualities
First, get in touch with Mayors of Small Cities. Find out where the National Conference of Mayors meets, and also the National Conference of Black/Hispanic Mayors meets, depending upon your racial ID. Also, 'job shadow' your local mayor to see what kind of job they REALLY do. All you have to do is tell them you are a student interested in politics. All kinds of internships are available...some pay, some don't.

Next, take a course in Parliamentary Law. You have to understand HOW to properly conduct meetings, how to read and submit legislation, and how to team build. Watch your local and state legislature and understand the process in which bills become law. You have to understand the legal process...period.

Next, sharpen your people and speaking skills. Mrs. Hillary Clinton forgot these two lessons and got POUNDED in Iowa by a political newcomer (Obama). Voters LIKE to be wooed every two to four years. If you don't woo them...they will throw you under the bus.

Lastly, get involved with your local party on a few campaigns. Politics is about green money and street hustle. You have to be willing to work hard. If your family isn't behind you, you are at a loss. Also, your first few elections, stay away from 'political mopes' who are 'assigned' from your party to run your campaign. They are really there so they can siphon off your contributors and workers for future campaigns.

Read a few books, too. Churchhill, Lincoln, Reagan. Sure, the Internet is popular, but 'shaking hands and kissing babies' is what makes politics run.

Also...you are going to have to determine IF you will take PAC money, or 'special interest' cash to run your campaign. Read up on these items too!
Used car salesman or insurance salesman
Get a job where you are involved in the community. Being a politician is being on the same wavelength as the public. Railwayman, postman, salesman, being aware of difficulties of the populace is vital. Unless you want to be an independent join a political party. Become a councillor first, get elected first that way. I have several MP friends who were District or County Councillors. And be aware it's a time-consuming business. Marriage break ups are common as the partner spends a lot of time away from home, neglecting children etc.

p.s. If you're in the US you'll have to convert my terms. But I guess the principle is the same.

I want a Building for my business. And want to lease with the option to buy the building. Please advice as to?

The building sales for $70,000. I currently work from my home. I have about $34,000 available to Equipe my business with workstations %26amp; computers for a Financial Planning Business. The owner is willing to finance. But I want to work the business at least 2 or 3 years before buying the building.I want a Building for my business. rent as an option to buy, like see if they will rent to own.I want a Building for my business. And want to lease with the option to buy the building. Please advice as to?
You are a Financial Planner and need to ask such questions here on Yahoo?

Great Advertising for your Financial Planning skills...

Find a good realtor and explain what your intentions are then sit down with an even better lawyer that is trained to handle real estate legals and have him draw up an iron clad contract between you and the owner of that building.

What you are intending to do is called a lease with option to buy.

That means you rent that building for a set amount of years before you finally get the financing going to buy the building outright. Whether your rent payments during that time can be applied towards the price you negotiated for the purchase of the building... that depends on how desperate the owner is and how well your lawyer can draw up a legally binding agreement.
You will need to execute a lease/purchase agreement with the building owner or a rent to own agreement specifying the terms and sale price with the payments reducing the final purchase price while the lease is in effect.

You can set clauses that protect you and the owner while the lease is in effect and either of you may terminate the lease at anytime or by mutual agreement.

The owner retains title of the building during the lease and gets a fixed amount of income.

You get a place to see if your business will succeed or not.

If you decide not to purchase the building, the owner can still sell it or rent it out.
office space is really cheap, especially now. I would rent until you have the cash and feel as if the business is really growing. Please don't buy until you have several years of positive results. I am happy for you, but just wait. good luck

How can i start body building? Any advice?

Ive just ordered a bench with weights and i was just wondering how many reps and sets should i do?

    How much cardio?

Other methods of cardio other than running?

how long until i notice a difference?

thnksHow can i start body building? Any advice?
As you are a beginner, you will need very little stimulation in order to grow in the beginning. Any more, and you are risking injury and also have a great chance of overtraining.

    Initially, you want to do 3 exercises consisting of 2 sets of 15-18 for each body part. For example, the chest;

Bench press 2 sets of 18

Chest fly 2 sets of 18

Incline dumbbell press 2 sets of 18.

    Never train the same body part more than once per week to begin with. It is important to let your body rest, as this is when it grows. Also, between each set, have a rest of about 45-60 secs. Between exercises, usually a minute will suffice. Train one day on, one day off. For example, this is my training split;

    Monday - Chest/Back

    Tuesday- Off

Wednesday - Shoulders/Legs/Core (abs and lower back)

    Thursday - Cardio day

    Friday - Biceps/Triceps

    Saturday - Core

    Sunday - Cardio

Normally, I don't do much cardio, only 2 sessions per week. This is because if you keep up the intensity during your workouts (ie. leave short rest periods between sets), you get a good cardio workout anyway. Long, sustained cardio makes it more difficult to build muscle, as you are using energy that would be potentially used for protein synthesis required to build the muscle.

There are many forms of cardio, and it is vital to mix them up for variety and also to ensure your body gets different stimulation. There are things like using a cross trainer, cycling, walking (although it's quite boring, it is a great, low impact form of exercise). Swimming is a great exercise as it keeps up your flexibility aswell as being a great cardio workout.

Remember, before and after a workout, a 5 minute low intensity cardiovascular exercise followed by stretching is vital.

The difference will depend on your current physique and also on the way in which you approach your diet. Keep the protein high (from lean sources) and the carbs moderate (and from wholemeal sources) and the fat moderate (from omega sources) and you'll be on the way before you know it!How can i start body building? Any advice?
Ha ha....thanks for the plug ';envy';.

Ok dude first off how old are you? If you are young you will wanna go easier on the weights cuz your growth plates ain't closed yet and really heavy weights could stunt your growth.

But to bulk up you will wanna go with heavier weights with fewer reps. And to tone up you will wanna go lighter with more reps.

Usually guys startin up will wanna bulk up first. You pack on the muscle first then tone it to give definition later.

You might wanna visit http://www.bodybuilding.com for some good exercise routines, some diet info, and they got forums there for questions.

And now for diet. You need to pay close attention to diet. For buikin you need carbs and protein. Lose fast food and junk food cuz it ain't good for you.

As for other cardio than runnin. There is ridin bike, swimmin, skatin, anything really that is pretty much a constant exercise for a fairly long time. Swimming several laps is really good cardio cuz it works more of you than just legs.
Talk to your doc...and as well, maybe talk to a fitness specialist...so they can show you what to do.

You might research 'workouts' in general online and print them out...or look for books at the library or the local bookstore....

Hopefully this will assist in your quest for fitness! Good luck - and be careful. ;)
    Good for you!

Now shut up and start hoisting something!

Now lets see, a load of hay equals about 120 bales and each bale weighs 40 pounds on average, Times 10 loads each day,.....

Keep going until you have lifted 24 tons.
    excersize

Where can I get good deck building advice for Magic the Gathering?

I would like to build a few Magic decks, and I would like some advice on them.Where can I get good deck building advice for Magic the Gathering?
Here is some basic advise/guidelines to think about when you are building a new deck:

-Try to make the deck focused, mainly by limiting the number of colors you play and by the types of cards you include. If you want to build an aggressive deck, play with lots of creatures and stuff that helps with pounding out 20 points of damage. For a control deck, lots of counterspells and board control cards and only a few creatures (if any).

-Try to use 4 of each non-land card you want to play. A highlander deck or one that has 2 and 3 of's is not going to play as well as a deck that is tuned and focused.

-Build around a specific card. Alot of the coolest decks have been designed around a specific card (ie Tolarian Academy, Tendrils of Agony, etc)Where can I get good deck building advice for Magic the Gathering?
You can post them here or on just about any MtG forum.
