I have been training for around about 6 months now and I have seen little results but nothing all that noticeable. I'm going to start drinking protein shakes and my diet has a fair amount of protein. Is there anything else I can do to make bigger gains or will it just take more time?Advice on building muscle and making gains?
If you haven't worked out much before, the little gains that you are seeing now are beginner gains. All beginners get them. But once those new gains run out... then it's time to look a little deeper at things.
Most of the time when gains stop it is due to diet. Most people don't want to believe that.. but it's true. If you are not gaining you are:
A. Not eating enough
AND/OR
B. Not working intensely enough (more is not better)
AND/OR
C. Not resting enough. Sleep is critical as well.
AND/OR
D. Over training

What does ';a fair amount of protein'; mean? Bodybuilders get scientific about it - they track their protein down to the gram.
Studies show that you need to get over 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight every single day in order to grow lean muscle faster.[1] (This link also has price comparisons from many stores for the best protein deals)
You also need to eat enough clean foods to gain weight.[2]
Get on fitday.com and start entering your foods to see where you REALLY stand - you might be fooling yourself.
You can also take creatine, which is proven safe and effective[3,4]
Other than that, keep it up, and do big, compound lifts like bench press, squats, and deadlifts. Maybe it's time to research a new workout dedicated to getting bigger, like Hypertrophy-Specific Training[5]
you just gotta keep working on it and dont worry about what your results were in the past and keep looking forward and push yourself harder than you were before and protein shakes help alot too but you just gotta make a schedule and stick to it
I was always told that to gain mass you used more weight and less repetitions.
A leaner, more ripped physique is gotten from more reps of a lesser weight.
Try increasing your aerobic capacity. Having a greater capacity will enable you to work out for longer periods.
