Need advice on building a speaker cabinet?

I have 2 x 10'; speakers and 2 x 4'; speakers that I removed from some old stereo equipment. I would like to make a speaker cabinet for bass/guitar using these. The speakers are hooked up with the spring jacks in the back (+,-). I will need my cab to have the standard 1/4'; jack. I can do some new wiring if need be but I don't really know where to start. I have looked at parts and may have a general idea of how it fits together but is it really as simple as connecting the speakers to the 1/4'; jack? Someone please help.Need advice on building a speaker cabinet?
If you are using an external amplifier, It would be as simple as building a box, mounting the speakers, wiring the speakers to a jack, plugging It into the amp and plugging your guitar into the amp.
